The old U.S. Mint is the only building in the U.S. to have served both as a U.S. and Confederate Mint. Pres. Andrew Jackson established the Mint, built in 1835, to help finance the development of the nation’s western frontier. The old U.S. Mint is part of the five museums that comprise the Louisiana state museum complex along with the Cabildo, the Presbytere, the 1850′s House and Madam John’s Legacy.
