DUTCH ALLEY ARTISTSʼ CO-OP
The Dutch Alley Artistsʼ Co-Op is a gallery of local fine arts and crafts; owned and staffed completely by its member artists. The idea of Dutch Alley Artistsʼ Co-Op was first discussed in the summer of 2003, within a few short months a group of artist/entrepreneurs formed an organization, signed a lease-contract with the French Market Corporation and opened before Thanksgiving. That was 8 years ago! What had been a non- commercially viable space for decades was creatively transformed into an upscale, commercially sustaining, incubator for local artists.
The Co-Op is an attraction and destination for both tourists and locals, who wish to see and purchase beautiful, handcrafted local art directly from local artists. Original paintings, ceramics, glass, jewelry, textiles and mixed media are displayed. While staffing the gallery, artists explain and share the why and how of these many different creative mediums. Sharing the creative ideas brings the art to life.
